- This article illustrates why I never picked up the habit. My great aunt was a smoker for years. In 1982 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and died early summer. The last time I saw her alive, after chemo and losing a lung, she was still sneaking into my great-grandmother's bathroom to smoke

- And, as for "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Bono is saying that you should thank God you're not in their shoes. It took me a long time to realize that; my first impression was what the OP was saying. And as gorgeous as she is...Mariah Carey's voice just doesn't work for Christmas songs.

- My list: Anything sung by young Michael Jackson. Is he the one who first did that "Santa Claus is coming to town...Santa Claus is coming to town...Santa Claus is coming to towwwwwwwwwwwwn?" If so...even worse. That high pitched voice also really ruined "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus."

- If, by the Newark Econolodge, you mean the one off US 1-9 near the airport, it was that way back in '09, too. Never again; "free wi-fi access" doesn't mean bring your laptop to the lobby where prying eyes can watch you do you work. The room was dirty, the place looked like a crack haven...

- I hadn't flown in 20 years when I hopped on board a plane to Maine (The plane to Maine stays mainly...shutting up now). United charged me the obligatory luggage fee and I only had to check my bag; I was allowed to take my laptop and camera (combined costing about $2300) on board.
